Dong Zhong 董重 was a General of Agile Cavalry for the Han. He disputed He Jin's authority. Because of that, the Palace Attendants enlisted his aid in support of their party.

Biography[]

Empress-Dowager He often stopped the Empress-Dowager Dong whenever she sought to interfere in matters of government. This angered the Lady Dong and she shouted:

"You are powerful now because you rely on your brother! But I can order the General of Agile Cavalry to cut off He Jin's head, and that would be easy as turning my hand!"

Lady He told He Jin about this. Eleven days later, on the 7th of June, He Jin brought troops to surround the offices of the General of Agile Cavalry. Dong Zhong was arrested and stripped of his appointment. He committed suicide.

Dong Zhong was a nephew of Empress-Dowager Dong and cousin of Emperor Ling.[3]
