Liang Hu 梁鵠 was a calligrapher and civil official during the late Han.
Biography[]
He was proficient in the Eight Point Script 八分書.[1][2] Liang Hu first served as the Civil Officer of the Secretariat. Either he or Sima Fang recommended Cao Cao to serve as Commandant of the North of Luoyang; it is said that Cao Cao requested to be the Prefect of Luoyang but that Liang Hu saw him more suited as a Commandant.[1] He served as the 選曹尚書 by the end of Emperor Ling's reign.[3]
Liang Hu later fled into Jing province, but after Cao Cao took the region in 208, Liang Hu was summoned by Cao Cao. Liang Hu feared he might be executed as he had fled into Jing province, so he offered his books for his life. Cao Cao appreciated Liang Hu's writing skills and spared him. Cao Cao even had Liang Hu's writings attached to his tent banners and ordered Liang Hu to inscribe his calligraphy onto the palace gates.[1]
