Mi Fang 麋芳 was a civil official who served Liu Bei. He is most well-known for his surrender to Lü Meng. An interesting fact of note is that he served Cao Cao, Liu Bei, and Sun Quan, thus serving the three families of the Three Kingdoms in his lifetime.
Biography[]
Mi Fang came from a family of extremely rich merchants, having around ten thousand servants as well as hundreds of millions in wealth.[1]
In 219, Mi Fang, as the Grand Administrator of Nan Commandery, was at Jiangling. He and Shi Ren (who was at Gong'an) were to help out Guan Yu in sieging Fancheng. Mi Fang and Shi Ren did not like Guan Yu as he often slighted the two. When Mi Fang and Shi Ren neglected to provide all the avaliable army supplies to Guan Yu, the general angrily said, "When I return, I shall certainly punish them!" Mi Fang and Shi Ren felt uneasy, and soon, Sun Quan enticed the two to join them, Mi Fang handing over Jiangling. Guan Yu returned to a very unfavorable situation and soon perished in the Wu attack.[2] Mi Zhu was so infuriated by Mi Fang's surrender that he fell ill and died some years afterwards.[3]
