Xianyu Fu 鮮于輔 was a military general who served Liu Yu, then Cao Cao.
Biography[]
After Liu Yu's death by the hands of Gongsun Zan around 192, Xianyu Fu and other former subordinates of Liu Yu banded together to start a revolt against Gongsun Zan. They and Yuan Shao allied together, defeating Gongsun Zan's forces multiple times.[1]
Xianyu Fu would later voluntarily submit to the court under Cao Cao, who made him General who Establishes Loyalty (jiànzhōng jiāngjūn 建忠將軍) with supervision over six commanderies of You province. He fought in the Battle of Guandu where it is implied his skills helped defeat Yuan Shao. Cao Cao was impressed and later told him, "When in the past year did Benchu (Yuan Shao) deliver Gongsun Zan's head to me, I thought my [fate] to be sudden and quick, that was all. Yet now I have overcome him! That was Heaven's will and also by your strength, sir."[2] He then directly served Cao Cao, who enfeoffed him as Marquis of Nanchang district[3] and made him General Who Crosses the Liao on the Left (zuǒ dù-Liáo jiāngjūn 左度遼將軍). He remained in You province because he was a respected figure in the region who would bring stability. After Cao Cao's death, Xianyu Fu became Tiger Tooth General (hǔyá jiāngjūn 虎牙將軍).[4] In 220, he was among the names listed in a stele that asked Cao Pi to take the throne for himself from the Han.[3] After Cao Pi became Emperor, he enfeoffed Xianyu Fu as an unspecified county marquis.[4]
